GEXPAYE en el Estadio Julian Javier-GEXPAYE Goes to the Stadium

Como saben, en GEXPAYE valoramos la experiencia como forma de aprendizaje, por eso y aprovechando que era noche de niñ@s gratis en el estadio de SFM y que el padre de uno de nuestros chicos consiguió que nos donaran la entrada de adulto llevamos un pequeño ejercito a disfrutar de un juego bien reñido entre las Aguilas y los Gigantes. Desafortunadamente perdieron los Gigantes, equipo  de SFM que apoyaban l@s chic@s de GEXPAYE pero nos divertimos mucho.

In GEXPAYE we believe in the value of providing experiences as a form of learning so we decided to take advantage of free kid´s night and asked one of the parents who works at the stadium to get us free adult tickets to the baseball game, which he was able to do. Thanks to him,  we were able to take a group of our kids to the stadium and enjoy an exciting game. Unfortunately the team GEXPAYE was shouting for lost, but we had a great time anyways.

Se acerca el 12 de octubre y queremos tomar esta oportunidad para motivar una rectificación de la  historia sobre el evento que se conmemora ese día, y hacer un llamado a una proclamación de dicho día como el Día de La Resistencia, conmemorando así  la resistencia a la opresión y a la colonización que se dio y se sigue dando en estas tierras y en todas las tierras victimas de ellas.

October 12 is almost here so we want to take this opportunity to call for a historical clarification of what happened on that day and demand that  this day be proclaimed Day of Resistance to conmemorate the resistance to the oppression and colonization that occured then and continues to occur nowadays.

En San Fco de Macoris, República Dominicana un comité compuesto por nosotr@s (Edwin Urbano y Luisa Paulino) y amigos artistas Dako Herrera, Oscar Martin, y Jochy Marmolejos  estaremos celebrando eventos de resistencia la semana del 12 de octubre. Por este medio queremos invitar a cualquier persona o equipo que quiera unirse a este llamado de resistencia a contactarnos. Nuestra amiga y colaboradora Rossy Diaz con sus Rumbas Barriales l@s invita  a unirse a este llamado en el enlace abajo. 

We in San Fco de Macoris have formed a committee made up of us  (Edwin Urbano y Luisa Paulino) and  artists friends  Dako Herrera, Oscar Martin, y Jochy Marmolejos  and will be celebrating a week of events of resistance the week of October 12. Finaliza Exitosamente Nuestro Campamento de Salud y Cultura de Paz / Our Health and Peace Camp Ends Successfully

GEXPAYE termina su campamento de salud y cultura de paz con la exitosa obra socio-drama Donde Viven los Monstruos, adaptada del libro por el mismo nombre, del autor Maurice Sendak. En esta obra se plantea la problemática de la violencia que hemos aprendido e internalizado (hecho nuestra)  con la esperanza de que sirva como reflexión y posible motivación a un cambio en nuestro comportamiento. 

GEXPAYE ends its health and culture of peace camp with the performance of the socio-drama Where the Monsters Live, an adaptation of Maurice Sendak´s book Where the Wild Things Are. The performance discusses the problem of violence that we have internalized with the hope of promoting reflection and possibly motivating a change in our behavior.

Antes de la obra, el publico disfruto de Cartones, una exposición de las obras en cartón hechos por las/los integrantes de GEXPAYE y de otras varias instalaciones artísticas. Aunque en las fotos no se puede apreciar, las imágenes en los cuadros son tridimensionales.

 Besides the performance, the audience enjoyed Cartones, an exhibit of the work in cardboard that the membersof GEXPAYE have made as well as other artistic instalations. The images in these paintings are three dimensional.

El escenario el cual esta hecho todo en base de periodico y carton. L@s actores de la obra participaron en todo el proceso de la creacion del escenario en el cual podemos apreciar estrellas, lluvia, nubes, luna, arboles con frutos y monstruos, piedras, grama y flores, todo trazado, cortado a mano, pintado, y pegado por ell@s. Un increible trabajo. Estamos tod@s super orgullosos de ell@s.

The stage was papered with newspaper and then the rest was made with paper and cardboard. The actors in the play participated in the whole process of the creation of the stage. In it we can appreciate stars, rain drops, clouds, the moon, trees with fruits and monsters, rocks, weed and flowers all traced, cut, painted and taped to the wall by them. An incredible amount of work. We are all truly proud of them.

Brindis y Regalo Final/Final Toast and Souvenir

Al final de la obra como eramos un campamento de salud tuvimos un brindis saludable de jugos de Flor de Jamaica y de Guayaba y palomitas de maíz. Para apoyar y motivar un cambio a la cultura de paz se distribuyo el folletito Pautas Para Convivir en Paz y l@s niñ@s recibieron bejigas. En pocas palabras, todo un éxito.

At the end of the play since we were a health and peace camp we gave out healthy drinks of hibicus flowes and guava juice and popcorn as a snack. To support a change to a culture of peace members of the audience were given a little booklet with a few guidelines to live peace and the children were given balloons.  All in all a wonderful experience and successful event.

Campamento de Salud y Paz terminara con la Obra de Teatro Donde Viven Los Monstrous/Health and Peace Camp will end with the play Where the Wild Things Are

Vamos a culminar nuestro Campamento de Salud y Cultura de Paz este viernes septiembre 14 con un socio-drama inspirado en el trabajo de Teatro del Oprimido del dramaturgo brasileño Augusto Boal.  En este contexto se usa el teatro para bregar problemas sociales y considerar posibles soluciones. Como uno de los enfoques de nuestro campamento es construir una cultura de paz, estaremos bregando el tema de la violencia en nuestra comunidad con una adaptación del libro ¨Donde Viven Los Monstruos¨ de Maurice Sendak. El evento tendrá lugar a las 7:00 PM en  el Club 27 de Febrero localizado en la C/ Jose Marti en la Javiela

 En este video Edwin Urbano muestra como va el proceso de la elaboración del escenario el cual esta hecho de materiales reciclados como el periódico, cartón, papel, y plástico. Todo el trabajo de montaje- incluyendo la creación de la escenografía y la elaboración de los trajes y mascaras de los monstruos-,  publicidad, y fondos relacionado con la obra fue hecho con la activa participación  de las/los integrantes del campamento.

We will be concluding our Health and Culture of Peace Camp this coming Friday September 14th with a socio-drama inspired by the work of Augusto Boal, a Brazilian dramaturgist who created the technique of Theater of the Oppresed where theater is used to deal with social issues and find possible solutions. Since one of our focus was building a culture of peace, we will be addressing the problem of violence in our community with an adaptation of Maurice Sendak´s book ¨Where the Wild Things Are.¨ This event will start at 7:00 PM and take place at  the Club 27 de Febrero in la Javiela.  

In this video Edwin Urbano shows us how the process of decorating the stage s going. It is important to note that the members of GEXPAYE actively participated in the assembly of the stage, which is made of recycled materials such as newspaper, cardboard, plastic and paper, as well as in all other work related to the play (assembly, publicity and funding). 

1er Intercambio Cultural con la Organización Déjennos Ser Uno_Let Us Be One-1st Cultural Interchange with the Organization Let Us Be One

Cuatro miembros de la fundacion Déjennos Ser Uno-Let Us Be One de Nueva York, que trabaja para la unificación artística global,  nos estuvieron visitando y compartiendo su conocimiento artístico.

Four members of the Déjennos Ser Uno-Let Us Be One foundation, located in New York and which works towards global artistic unification came to visit us and shared their art with us.

Taller Armonía en Colores-Workshop on Colors

 Aquí Alison, el representante mas pequeño de la organización Dejennos Ser Uno-Let us Be One , hijo de Rafaelina Tineo fotógrafa dominicana y dirigente de la organización,  abrió la primera tarde creativa con su taller Armonía en Colores donde nos enseño lo que sabe sobre la calificación de colores- fríos y calientes- y como combinarlos.

Alison, the youngest representative of Déjennos Ser Uno-Let Us Be One, son of Rafaelina Tineo, professional photographer and director of the foundation, started us off with his workshop on colors where he told us which colors were hot and which cold and showed us how to combined them.

Taller de Muñecas de Trapo-Ragdoll Making Workshop

Taller de Mascaras-Mask Making Workshop 

Al otro dia estabamos programados para tener un taller de mascaras en el club usando una tecnica similar al paper mache pero con harina y agua en vez de ega y agua. Pero cuando llegamos el club  no pudimos entrar pues alguien se había llevado las llaves. Tuvimos que hacer lo que pudimos en la calle. Por suerte y con el apoyo de la comunidad que nos consiguió agua y envases pudimos comenzar las mascaras aunque no pudimos terminarlas pues la pintura e utensilios estaban en el club.

The next day we were to have a mask-making workshop at the club usina a techique similar to that of papier mache but using flour and water instead of glue and water. But there were no keys when we got there. We had to make do and run the workshop on the street in front of the closed club. Thanks to and with the support of the community members who gave us water and containers to work with, we were able to start the masks though we were not able to finish them because the paint and other utensils were at the club.

Y como parte del intercambio cultural, una comida típica en una casa típica del barrio. Nuestros visitantes tambien disfrutaron de una estadia en nuestro pueblo de SFM y de viajes a un rio en la falda de nuestra montaña y a la playa. Una linda experiencia. Gracias a nuestros visitantes por compartir su ser y su conocimiento con nosotr@s.

As part of the cultural interchange, our visitors enjoyed a typical Dominican meal at a typical Dominican inner city home. They also enjoyed a stay in our town of SFM and trips to a river at the base of our mountain and to the beach. It was a beautiful experience. Thanks to our visitors for sharing their beings and knowledge with us.
