El martes 8 de abril visitamos por primera vez la Biblioteca Comunitaria Dr. William House, primera biblioteca en nuestro pueblo San Francisco de Macorís. que te permite sacar libros en Acudimos a su hora de cuento la cual fue muy dinámica y divertida. Luego de compartir varios cuentos, cada participante escogió un libro para leer. Luego de leer disfrutaron de rompe cabezas y juegos de mesa. La visita a la biblioteca culmino con un viaje al parque infantil para recrearnos un poco y una deliciosa y nutritiva merienda. La pasamos muy bien y l@s chic@s llegaron a sus casas muy entusiasmados y preguntando cuando sera la próxima visita. Gracias Rebecca y todo el equipo de la biblioteca.
Tuesday April 9th was our first visit to the Community Library Dr William House, the first book lending library in our town, San Francisco de Macoris. We went to their Story Time which was quite dynamic and fun. After listening to a few stories each participant chose a book of his or her liking. After reading they enjoyed puzzles and board games. The visit to the library ended with a trip to the neighborhood playground to relax and play a little and to enjoy a delicious and healthy snack. We had a lot of fun and the kids arrived home full of enthusiasm and looking forward to our next visit. We want to thank Rebecca and the library staff.

MES DE TRABAJO CARNAVALESCO Y CELEBRACIÓN FINAL/ MONTH OF CARNIVAL WORK AND FINAL CELEBRATION

Durante todo el mes de febrero estuvimos desarrollando el taller  Creatividad Carnavalesca en   el cual l@s  niñ@s diseñaron y elaboraron ell@s mismos sus disfraces y caretas para participar del carnaval local con nuestra comparsa ¨Creadores de la Alegría¨ la cual encabezo el desfile final de nuestro carnaval local el 27 de febrero fruto de su arduo trabajo y dedicación.

Como parte de este taller, los participantes crearon acuerdos que denotaban su responsabilidad y compromiso en crear el ambiente propicio que les permitiera hacer el trabajo necesario para su participación en el carnaval local.

Para celebrar su participación,  organizamos  un compartir en el cual junto a sus familias disfrutaron de juegos, piscina, merienda, lectura, y una suculenta  empaguetada. Finalizamos esta esplendida tarde con una entrega de placas a l@s participantes en reconocimiento de su   esfuerzo, responsabilidad, compromiso y dedicación dentro y fuera de los talleres ofrecidos durante todo el mes de febrero porque consideramos que es importante reconocer estas cualidades y enseñar que dan fruto. La satisfacción de un trabajo bien hecho y su reconocimiento les motiva a seguir involucrándose, poniendo esfuerzo y dedicación y asumiendo responsabilidad por su desarrollo.  También reconocimos a Sara Farías, madre de tres de las participantes, por su integración y colaboración.

During the month of February we offered a workshop on Creative Carnival Making in which the children designed and elaborated their own masks and costumes to participate in our local carnival parade. Their group ¨Creators of Joy¨ led the parade, showcasing their hard work and dedication.

At the start of this workshop, participants created agreements that placed the responsibility of creating the atmosphere conducive to doing the work needed to achieve the goal of participating in the local parade.

To celebrate their participation, we hosted an afternoon of sharing and fun where along with some of their family members they enjoyed games, inflated pools, snacks, reading time and succulent spaghetti for dinner. We concluded this wonderful time by giving each participant a plaque to acknowledge their effort,  hard work, dedication and compromise. We hosted this event and gave them the plaques because we believe it is important to acknowledge these qualities and to show that things come to those who do. It is also important to note that the satisfaction of a job well done and its acknowledgement  motivate them to continue engaging in activities, putting effort and dedication and actively assuming responsibility for their development. We also recognized Sara Farías, mother of three of the participants, for her support and collaboration. 

VIAJE AL COLEGIO CARROLL MORGAN EN SANTO DOMINGO/TRIP TO THE PRIVATE SCHOOL CARROLL MORGAN IN SANTO DOMINGO

DURANTE EL MES DE MARZO FUIMOS INVITADOS POR NUESTRA AMIGA ANA ELISA PEREZ  A PARTICIPAR DE UN EVENTO SOBRE PROYECTOS DE DESARROLLO SOSTENIBLES EN EL COLEGIO BILINGÜE CARROLL MORGAN EN LA CAPITAL  DOMINICANA. PARA ESTE EVENTO  CREAMOS Y DESARROLLAMOS HISTORIAS Y ELABORAMOS   LIBROS  ARTESANALES CON NARRATIVAS ESCRITAS POR L@S NIÑ@S QUE PARTICIPAN DE LOS TALLERES EN LOS SABADOS ARTESANALES. EXHIBIMOS ESTOS LIBROS JUNTO CON OTRA ARTESANIA ECOLOGICA QUE HACEMOS EN LA ACTIVIDAD DE DESARROLLO SOSTENIBLE DEL COLEGIO DE CARROLL MORGAN. GRACIAS A NUESTRA AMIGA Y AL COLEGIO POR PERMITIRNOS EXHIBIR NUESTRO TRABAJO Y DARNOS LA OPORTUNIDAD DE APRENDER Y DIVERTIRNOS.

During the month of March our friend Ana Elisa Peréz invited us to participate in an event about sustainable development in the private bilingual school Carroll Morgan in our capital city of Santo Domingo. To prepare for this event, the youngsters participating in our arts and crafts program wrote stories and created hand-made books We exhibited the hand-made books we created in Carroll Morgan´s school activity of sustainable development. Thanks to our collaborating friend and to the school for inviting and allowing us to exhibit our our work and for giving us the opportunity to learn and enjoy ourselves.  

CREANDO LIBROS ARTESANALES PARA VIAJE A CARROLL MORGAN/CREATING HAND-MADE BOOKS FOR TRIP TO CARROLL MORGAN

Durante el mes de marzo fuimos invitados por nuestra amiga Ana Elisa Pérez  a participar de un evento sobre proyectos de desarrollo sostenibles en el colegio bilingüe Carroll Morgan en la capital  dominicana. Para este evento  creamos y desarrollamos historias y elaboramos   libros  artesanales con narrativas escritas por l@s niñ@s que participan de los talleres en los sábados artesanales. Además de escribir historias sobre lugares y eventos populares en San Francisco de Macorís como lo son nuestro carnaval  y nuestro equipo de pelota Los Gigantes, durante este proceso realizamos un viaje a una finca de cacao para de esta experiencia y vivencia  poder describir lugares  y personajes para la creación de las historias. Exhibimos los libros creados con las historias de l@s jóvenes, diseñados por Edwin Urbano y José Luis Marmolejos y traducidos por Luisa Paulino  junto con otra artesanía ecológica que hacemos en la actividad de desarrollo sostenible del colegio Carroll Morgan. Gracias a nuestra amiga colaboradora y al colegio por permitirnos exhibir nuestro trabajo y darnos la oportunidad de aprender y divertimos.

To prepare for this event, the youngsters participating in our arts and crafts program wrote stories and created hand-made books about popular places and events in our town San Francisco de Macorís, such as our Carnival and Los Gigantes (the Giants), our baseball team.   In order to write get more input, we visited a cocoa farm to help us better describe places and characters for our stories. We exhibited the hand-made books we created with the stories written by the participants, designed by Edwin Urbano y José Luis Marmolejos and translated by Luisa Paulino in Carroll Morgan´s school activity of sustainable development. Thanks to our collaborating friend and to the school for inviting and allowing us to exhibit our our work and for giving us the opportunity to learn and enjoy ourselves.
