Cuatro miembros de la fundacion Déjennos Ser Uno-Let Us Be One de Nueva York, que trabaja para la unificación artística global,  nos estuvieron visitando y compartiendo su conocimiento artístico.

Four members of the Déjennos Ser Uno-Let Us Be One foundation, located in New York and which works towards global artistic unification came to visit us and shared their art with us.

Taller Armonía en Colores-Workshop on Colors

 Aquí Alison, el representante mas pequeño de la organización Dejennos Ser Uno-Let us Be One , hijo de Rafaelina Tineo fotógrafa dominicana y dirigente de la organización,  abrió la primera tarde creativa con su taller Armonía en Colores donde nos enseño lo que sabe sobre la calificación de colores- fríos y calientes- y como combinarlos.

Alison, the youngest representative of Déjennos Ser Uno-Let Us Be One, son of Rafaelina Tineo, professional photographer and director of the foundation, started us off with his workshop on colors where he told us which colors were hot and which cold and showed us how to combined them.

Taller de Muñecas de Trapo-Ragdoll Making Workshop

Taller de Mascaras-Mask Making Workshop 

Al otro dia estabamos programados para tener un taller de mascaras en el club usando una tecnica similar al paper mache pero con harina y agua en vez de ega y agua. Pero cuando llegamos el club  no pudimos entrar pues alguien se había llevado las llaves. Tuvimos que hacer lo que pudimos en la calle. Por suerte y con el apoyo de la comunidad que nos consiguió agua y envases pudimos comenzar las mascaras aunque no pudimos terminarlas pues la pintura e utensilios estaban en el club.

The next day we were to have a mask-making workshop at the club usina a techique similar to that of papier mache but using flour and water instead of glue and water. But there were no keys when we got there. We had to make do and run the workshop on the street in front of the closed club. Thanks to and with the support of the community members who gave us water and containers to work with, we were able to start the masks though we were not able to finish them because the paint and other utensils were at the club.

Y como parte del intercambio cultural, una comida típica en una casa típica del barrio. Nuestros visitantes tambien disfrutaron de una estadia en nuestro pueblo de SFM y de viajes a un rio en la falda de nuestra montaña y a la playa. Una linda experiencia. Gracias a nuestros visitantes por compartir su ser y su conocimiento con nosotr@s.

As part of the cultural interchange, our visitors enjoyed a typical Dominican meal at a typical Dominican inner city home. They also enjoyed a stay in our town of SFM and trips to a river at the base of our mountain and to the beach. It was a beautiful experience. Thanks to our visitors for sharing their beings and knowledge with us. 

Comienza Campamento Verano 2012: Salud y Cultura de Paz-Summer Camp 2012 Health and a Culture of Peace

GEXPAYE, un proyecto socio-comunitario piloto de educación alternativa por medio del aprendizaje libre, lleva dos años en el  sector 27 de Febrero, antiguo Altos de la Javiela, uno de los sectores más vulnerables por la violencia en San Francisco de Macorís; cada día reafirmamos en la vida de cada niño y niña la importancia de un aprendizaje libre y una cultura de paz, justicia y responsabilidad.

Este verano estamos desarrollando el Campamento de Verano GEXPAYE 2012, un campamento piloto de salud y cultura de paz en el barrio 27 de Febrero de este municipio, con el propósito de llevarles una alternativa educacional de salud, desarrollo integral de la niñez, y construcción de una cultura de paz

Consideramos la pobreza la peor forma de violencia, e incluye los siguientes elementos: malnutrición y su resultante falta de salud, agresión física, emocional, y verbal, represión, apatía,  fealdad y ruido en el ambiente con su estresante efecto mental, emocional y espiritual (consideramos que la  espiritualidad no tiene nada que ver con la religión),carencia de experiencias fuera de su entorno, entre otros. En nuestro campamento queremos asistir a la transformación de la cultura de pobreza y su violencia en una cultura de paz. 


ENGLISH SYPNOSIS
This summer GEXPAYEoffering a health and culture of peace camp, hoping to provide educational health-oriented alternatives to help us create a culture a peace. We know poverty to be the worse kind of violence and usually includes the following elements: malnutrition and its effects, physical and verbal aggression, repression, high levels of stress , lack of experiences outside their surroundings, etc. We hope to assist in transforming this violence into a culture of peace through the arts, yoga, yudo, free-play, outings, healthy-snacks, medical and psychological exams. We have requested funds from our city hall, certain banks and other companies and have received an agreement of a donation by our city hall but that remains to be seen since corruption here is so high. We remain hopeful. But we are happy to inform that we have the collaboration of Doctor Zoila Henriquez and the institution CONANY which will provide us with a psychologist.

This is the press release written by our friend Rossy Dias, who along with Rafo Castillo, an artist, travelled, her from the capital and him from Puerto Plata, to be with us. GEXPAYE celebra sus dos años!

En un ambiente festivo, con colores y música, l@s niñ@s del barrio La Javiela, en San Francisco de Macoris celebraron este domingo 29 de abril el 2do. Aniversario de GEXPAYE. Con el objetivo de incentivar el aprendizaje a partir de las necesidades de l@s niñ@s, nace GEXPAYE, un proyecto impulsado por artistas y gestores de San Francisco de Macoris en el cual se trabaja en base al reciclaje y la preservación del medio ambiente, creando conciencia, responsabilidad, y valores más humanistas .Este es un proyecto socio-comunitario, educacional y cultural creado con el interés de asistir al desarrollo de l@s niñ@s y jóvenes de nuestros barrios y comunidades rurales por medio del arte, la artesanía, el juego, paseos, la lectura, la escritura, la discusión y el análisis, afirman Luisa Paulino y Edwin Jaquez, gestores del proyecto. En sus dos años, Gexpaye ha logrado un grupo de jóvenes, niños y niñas sumamente heterogéneo que ha canalizado su creatividad a través de las artes con trabajos que hoy pueden exhibir como orgullo de la comunidad. La actividad aniversaria comenzó a las 2:30 de la tarde con un desfile por el barrio con los Zanqueros y el grupo de Percusión de La Nave y la Escuela libre 27 de febrero. La primera parte artística estuvo a cargo del Movimiento Talento Urbano del Barrio Espínola.El artista plástico Rafo Castillo impartió un Taller de creatividad, que culminó con la venta de dulces y artesanías hechas por la comunidad y con La Pulguita para fondos del proyecto. La tarde terminó con presentaciones musicales de Las niñas de Gexpaye, Los Chicos de San Martin, la coreografía de Joel Music y Baby Jf, un simulacro de niños y niñas de la Defensa Civil del 27 de febrero y la participación de Junior y el pequeño Bryan. En estos dos años de Gexpaye, los artistas y gestores del proyecto mantienen firmemente su criterio “Queremos construir una sociedad menos consumista e individualista”. Estos son los grupos musicales que participaron en el evento, todos niñ@s y jovenes de nuestros barrios. Arriba están Las Chicas GEXPAYE, quienes son de La Javiela, seguidas por  Los Chicos de San Martin, del barrio por el mismo nombre,  luego El Movimiento Talento Urbano de la Espinola, Joel Music y Baby Jf , tambien de la Javiela. Luego La Defensa Civil 27 de Febrero hizo un simulacro de lo que han aprendido y para terminar con el publico viendo a Little Bryan, otro javielero,  cantar.
These are the pictures of the musical groups that participated in the event, all of them made up of kids and teenagers from our barrios, or poor neighborhoods.  First we have  Las Chicas GEXPAYE, from La Javiela; followed by  Los Chicos de San Martin, from a neighborhood by the same name; followed by  El Movimiento Talento Urbano, from La Espinola; then by Joel Music y Baby Jf , also from La Javiela. This was followed by the junior members of the Civil Defense showing us what they have learned. At the bottom we have a picture of the spectators watching Little Bryan, another javielero, sing. 


Y mientras todo eso estaba pasando otr@s se divertian comprando y comiendo-and while all of the above was going on others were busy shopping and eating

La gente comprando la comida que l@s integrantes de GEXPAYE prepararon la noche antes. El menú era jugo de tamarindo; refrescos; arroz con dulce; dulce de maíz pelado; helados de batata con coco; pinchos de queso, jamón y vegetales; palomitas de maíz; gelatina; palitos de queso. Se vendió mucha comida aunque  los pinchos y los helados no se vendieron.

People bought a lot of the food the members of GEXPAYE prepared the night before. The menu consisted of tamarind juice; soda; sweet rice; another sweet dish made of corn; home-made ice-cream; kebabs made of cheese, ham and vegetables;gelatine; and cheese sticks. We sold most of the food but for the kebabs and ice-cream which did not sell well.

Luego de que l@s integrantes de GEXPAYE  hicieron el mural y la maqueta del deseado Parque Infantil La Javiela,  nos dirigimos a el ayuntamiento a participar de la reunión de la Sala Capitular donde demandaremos la construcción del parque.

After the members of GEXPAYE painted the mural and made the model of the type of park we desire, we went to visit City Hall and participated in one of their sessions where we demanded the construction of the playground in La Javiela.
