LA FERIA GEXPAYE: primer set de fotos/THE GEXPAYE FAIR: first set of pictures

 

La cocina se mantuvo bien activa vendiendo vasos de refresco y agua, platos de yuca encebollada donada por Ana Mercedes, una madre amiga del proyecto, dos pailas de arroz con leche hecha por la tía de una miembra, con ganancias compartidas, y platos del sancocho comunal GEXPAYE hecho por Edwin con la colaboración de los colmados del barrio quienes nos donaron cosas y nos vendieron otras a rebajas y a las señoras que nos ayudaron a pelar los víveres y a lavar la gallina. No quedo ni agua. Todo se vendió, y claro, a precios bien módicos. / The kitchen was one of the busiest spot, selling not only soda and water but also boiled yucca with sauted onions donated by Ana Mercedes, a mother who is a friend of GEXPAYE, two pots of sweetened rice made by the aunt of one of the members with shared profits, and a sancocho, a Dominican dish resembling a stew, this time made communally since neighborhood stores either donated or sold us the needed items at lower prices and neighborhood aunts and grandmothers helped peel and cut vegetables and such. We sold out of everything. And to the benefit of all since our prices were super very modest.

Durante micrófono abierto, miembros/as de la comunidad se expresaron. Aquí vemos a Fidel, uno de nuestros miembros más pequeños, al micrófono. / During open mike members of the community were invited to express themselves. Here we see Fidel, one of our youngest members, at the mike. 

 Y seguimos vendiendo. Atrás vemos a Roanny, la chica con la camiseta crema, vendiendo una funda de cosas / Stuff keeps on selling. We see Roanny at the back (the one wearing the beige t-shirt)  selling a bag full of stuff.

Chequeando la artesanía la cual no se vendió mucho pues en nuestro entusiasmo y orgullo por el trabajo hecho le habíamos puesto precios relativamente caros en comparación con el resto de la mercancía en venta la cual era más de necesidad. Lección aprendida. / Someone checking out the crafts. We are sorry to inform that they did not sell much since in our enthusiasm and proud of the work we priced them too high in comparison with the rest of the stuff on sale. Lesson learned.

Llego la turba a comprar. Todo el mundo quiere ver la pulga. /The mob arrived, everyone intrigued by what bargains they might find.

Fuera de la participación de los/las niños/as y jóvenes del barrio el espectáculo de la feria también incluyo la participación de la joven cantante y actriz francomacorisana  Jamely, quien nos deleito con su voz y sabor. / Besides the participation of neighborhood children and adolecents, the show part of the fair also included Jamely, a young singer and actress from San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic, who delighted us with her songs.

 Y a Jamely la acompañan las chicas de GEXPAYE. And guess who accompanies Jamely on stage?
