Feria de Juguetes Vieja Belen- Christmas Toy Fair

Este diciembre les propusimos la Feria de Juguetes Vieja Belén a las oficinas gubernamentales como una alternativa a su usual donación de juguetes. En vez de creer y motivar el dar y la cultura del dame como lo hace la practica arriba mencionada, nosotr@s creemos en crear las condiciones necesarias para que las personas puedan tener acceso a lo que necesitan. En resumen este fue el objetivo de la propuesta  Feria Vieja Belén la cual pedía que nos donaran los juguetes a nosotr@s (GEXPAYE) para nosotr@s hacérselos accesibles a la comunidad a precios con un mínimo de 50% de descuento, haciendo así posible que el padre y la madre pudieran regalarles juguetes comprados por ell@s mismos a sus hijos sin tener que depender de la caridad de la gobernación. 

This December we met with members of City Hall and propused a new alternative to them. Every year they donate toys which are taken to the poor communities where adults literally fight for the toys. Instead of nourishing the inertia and give me culture that is consuming us, and since we believe in making things accessible to the people we proposed the Vieja Belen Toy Fair, which asked that they donate the toys to us, GEXPAYE, for us to sell it to the community members at super affordable prices with at least a 50% percent discount and more if necessary. The objective was to in this way make it possible for the parent or guardian to buy the King´s day present him or herself instead of having to depend on the charity of the government.

Aquí están algun@s de l@s miembr@s de GEXPAYE determinando y poniéndole los precios a cada juguete. Para hacer esto tuvimos que determinar el costo (lo que nos costo) y quitarle un 50% y si todavía resultaba muy cara entonces quitarle 10% o mas. Y así de una manera necesaria algun@s aprendimos algo de matemática.

Here GEXPAYE members are determining the price and marking each toy. In order to do this we had to determine the cost and take 50% off. If the price was still to high, we would then take another 10% off at least. In this way we benefitted from a real need to learn about math.

Y empieza la feria con los Zanqueros y la banda de percusión de la Nave. Les estamos muy agradecidos por su constante apoyo.

And the fair starts with the participation of the zanqueros and the percussion band from la Nave. We are very grateful for their constant support.

La Feria Vieja Belén fue todo un éxito pues los padres y guardianes pudieron comprarle reyes a sus hij@s, l@s niñ@s y jóvenes de la comunidad no solo recibieron los juguetes comprados por sus padres sino que hasta se compraron ell@s mismos juguetes pues habían hasta de RD$5.00,  GEXPAYE recaudo un poco mas de RD$2,200.00  con lo que compramos pintura para el trabajo de carnaval ahora en febrero, y una bola de béisbol, otra de voleibol y baterías que l@s miembros de GEXPAYE querían. Y ademas  tod@s disfrutamos de un ambiente festivo y de diversión sana, con música en radio y percusión en vivo, como también de juegos y pintadas de cara.

The Vieja Belen Fair was a total success. The parents or guardians were able to buy their children toys, the children and youth of the community not only recieved the toys their parents bought them but were also able to buy themselves toys since we were selling some at RD$5.00, while GEXPAYE made a little over RD$2,200 which is around $60 dollars with which we bought the paint we need for the carnaval, and bought a baseball a volleyball and the batteries the members of GEXPAYE wanted. What´s more we all enjoyed the festivities-the music and live percussion as well as the games and face painting.
